Arlington has some of the largest elevations in Northeast Florida which is why this community has abundant waterfront property It is surrounded by the St. Johns on the west and north and the Intracoastal on the east - which led to a separation so to speak from the rest of Jacksonville. Fort Caroline National Park overlooks the site of a former colony of French Huguenots. Jacksonville University, Jones College and a small airfield are also located in Arlington.
In the 1950's the separation was finally broken by the construction of the Matthews Bridge, which leads directly from Arlington into downtown Jacksonville. This led Arlington from a semi-rural + residential neighborhood to something more suburban + less tight-knit.
Since the 1960's Arlington has seen lots of residential development, so there are many neighborhoods and architectural styles to choose from, including more affordable options such at townhomes + condominiums, starting in the $50,000-$60,000 range with the median price around $300,000.
